Currently, about 2.6 million children in the U.S. are being raised by family members other than their parents. There is also an increasing number of children adopted by their grandparents. This unique type of adoption, comes with a unique set of benefits and complexities. In this course, the speaker provides adoption professionals with information on the dynamics of grandfamilies, strategies for navigating birth parent relationships, and post adoption resources.

After attending this course, professionals will be able to:
• Describe the process for grandparents to adopt their grandchildren
• Recall the unique benefits and complexities of grandparent kinship adoption
• Identify practical resources for meeting the needs of grandfamilies
• Examine strategies for navigating relationships and boundaries with a child’s birth parents, and for helping adoptees understand their adoption story.
