This webinar prepares adoption professionals to work effectively with single adoptive parents, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities these populations face throughout the adoption process. Participants will gain insights into legal and social dynamics, learn strategies for supporting parents through home studies and placements, and explore ways to foster inclusive and affirming practices that empower single parent adoptive families to thrive.

After attending this course, participants will be able to…
• Identify adoption laws and policies that impact single parents in intercountry, private domestic, and foster care adoption.
• Examine how adoption professionals can be sensitive to single parents before, during, and after the adoption process.
• Recognize the unique challenges of single adoptive parenthood and how this path may differ from two-parent households or single-parent households not formed by adoption.
• Demonstrate the importance of a strong support system for single adoptive parents, including those of other single and/or adoptive families.
• Give examples of resources available to single adoptive parents to ensure their ongoing support.

National Council For Adoption, #1804, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 04/13/2023 – 04/13/2026. Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 continuing education credits.
